What can Assistive Listening Devices (ALD)/hearing devices do for you?
ALDs can increase volume, awareness of sounds and their sources. These products improve the sound quality and awareness for a listener who is hard of hearing.
How can signaling/alerting devices help me?
Products are designed to help people with hearing loss stay aware of what's going on around them. Systems can flash lights around the house in response to baby crying, doorbell, telephone, intercom and fire alarm. There are also bed vibrators that can shake your bed when sleeping for the same types of sounds. The systems will flash a different pattern so you will not be confused as to why the light is flashing. These devices can ease frustration that grows due to missing phone calls or visitors because you don't hear the doorbell or telephone ringing. Regarding installation, you should know that most products are wireless and can be as easy to install as simply plugging a product into a wall outlet.
How do you choose an ALD?
Selecting ALDs depends on your type of hearing loss, your social needs, and usage expectations. HDS has trained professionals to help identify and select products that can meet individual needs and budgets.
Can different manufacturer's alerting devices (signalers and receivers) work together?
Some can, but it is not recommended. It is suggested by some manufacturers to stay within one brand for optimum use and warranty.
How do you choose an amplified telephone?
Knowing the hearing loss level (Mild, Moderate or Severe) will help determine which phone may work best. HDS offers different types of amplified telephones for different levels of hearing loss. However, if you don't know your level of hearing loss, then it is suggested that you select a phone with a variety of amplification features.
What can an amplified telephone do?
Amplified telephones can significantly increase incoming voice volume (listed as decibels or dB), ring tone and even speech tone. You should consider ability to use the phone feature controls when selecting one of these telephones. These phones can also have other features such as, visual ring indicator, extra large number buttons and ringer enhancement.
What is the warranty on most products?
Product warranties are through the manufacturer only and can range from 90 days to five years depending on the product.
Can I return a product for credit or refund?
Yes. If you need to return an item you must return the item within 30 days in its original condition and packaged in its original manufacturer's box or a restocking fee will charged. Refunds are given in the same manner received.
